Event of the week: He has a name

Introducing :                                            LUCAS DENVER KANEY!

The long debate of a name. I really did not think this was going to be determined until the birth. Negotiations are over and everyone is happy. Dan and I both had names that we wanted but how and if we were to use them was tough.

The most Dear person who has touched my life was Dan's maternal grandfather; Denver Otis Townley.  He passed away a few years ago but is present in thoughts everyday for me. I was open to using any of his three given names preferably as a first but I would settle for a middle name.

Dan felt strongly about keeping the family names of either John or Martin. Both are great names!

We mixed up the names: John, Martin, Denver & Otis in every possible combination. Dan wanted his names and I wanted mine. So, Lucas Denver Kaney was the outcome. Huh?  Well, we got so flustered at not agreeing that we started to bring in other names. Dan went through the books and sounded out a bunch and we both liked Lucas. Not too common but not so uncommon that he would get teased. Then, the dreaded middle name!  I worked it hard! I would not give up Papa's name completely. He was a big part of my life and even though John & Martin are memories for Dan it left out someone very special to me. Denver (Papa) touched both our lives and so it came to be.
